PRESS RELEASE

3inOne at In2Art – an art exhibition featuring works of art by Tesssa Alexander, Karen Hale Jackson and Omowale.  The exhibition opens from Thursday November 6 and closes on Friday November 14, 2008.

This exhibition is a treat because there is such diversity in the artists' creative interpretation, style, subject and execution.  As a result, the artists individually speak about their works of art in the exhibition as follows:

Tessa Alexander, has a great interest in cultural anthropology, which has had a profound influence on her work. Her motivation lays in creating work that appeal to the viewer in an emotional almost spiritual way. This series, which revisits parts of the Indian Culture in Trinidad, portray elements of that are both celebrated and taken for granted but that nonetheless coexist within the fabric of our lives as aspects of these elements have crossed racial barriers and have significantly contributed to our cultural heritage. Although the paintings are primarily in watercolour, with a background in fabric design Tessa's work utilizes the many facets of producing texture by layering different types of paper, decorative elements and diverse gel mediums onto her work surfaces before applying the colour.  This results in the artist's work appearing almost three dimensional and very rich in tones while at the same time working spontaneously to create a watery dreamlike feeling.

Karen Hale Jackson, on the other hand, paints what she sees and feels and she sees and feels the wonder that our country has to offer.  There is not a day that Karen goes out there and does not see something that makes her smile, whether it be a situation or a scene – some of these can be painted on canvas, others jusst painted permanently on the artist's mind.  Karen "feels' every one of her paintings– it all comes from the heart and she want to pass thhis on to others.  In her paintings she tries to remind us all that no matter what negative things go on out there we still have the beauty Trinidad and Tobago has to offer to turn to for solace.

Omowale's statement sums it all up – art must be emotionally, intellectually and techniccally good.  It must impress the mind, the eye, the soul.  Art must go beyond ordinary conception, inspiring awe.
