MEDIA RELEASE

In2Art is pleased to be the host of an exhibition titled Elements of Nature, Life and Celebration. The exhibition opens to the public on Friday April 23, 2010, at In2Art’s Gallery, 201 Aldegonda Park, St. Ann’s Road, Port of Spain.

The exhibition comprises works of art by five (5) artists and friends, namely Michael Lee Pow, Dexter Shim, Youri and Andoni St. George and Frieda Alexis Shim, who have come together bound by their shared admiration for a world of limitless, exquisite, terrifying beauty. AH world that is deeply threatened but one that demands that we take note of it's awesome strength and its nurturing spaces. They take this opportunity to share with you this part of their journey into the creative imagination. A journey filled with all the nuances and celebrated moments of life as seen through the eyes of age and youth.

MIKE LEE POW, a field naturalist by lifestyle and spirit, Mike has worked closely with the land and the water for as long as he can remember. He knows nature as he knows himself. Over the past nine years he has been a collector of driftwood, drawing from his deep response to life and creating from his imagination, a series of unique carvings expressing the flora and fauna that surround us in land, sea and sky.

DEXTER SHIM Dexter's approach to photography is about perspective and detail. A keen amateur photographer for some seven years or so, Dexter's eye for the experience, the spirit and the minute detail that constitutes beauty is the hallmark of his photography. Photography for him is an extension of his training as a master of precision and balance combined with a deep appreciation of culture and rhythm.

ANDONI AND YURI ST.GEORGE Like our twin island state; twins, brothers -the same but yet so infinitely different; bound by the same quest for truth and hope, coming to terms with loss and beauty, finding new pathways, seeking far horizons. This is reflected in their choice of exhibits for this show. Amateur photographers for the past five or six years, these brothers -young thinkers, their minds rife with all the contraries of youth -step forward to take their place in this new world of art and expression.

FRIEDA SHIM

An artist for some nine or ten years, Frieda has exhibited in various islands of the Caribbean before and continues to enjoy sharing her artistic journey with others. In acrylic, watercolour and pastels, Frieda paints her response to the rhythm, beauty and colour that is to be found in our world when viewed through the eyes of gratitude. Her paintings reflect her spirit of joy and celebration for the gift of life, for possibility and for hope.

Elements of Nature, Life and Celebration will close on April 29. In2Art is located at 201 Aldegonda Park, 7 St. Ann’s Road, Port-of-Spain, and open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturday from

10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Contact 624-4369/621-2224 for more details.
