In2 Art gallery, on behalf of Fernandes Industrial Centre, will host ‘The Spirit of Trinidad’, an exhibition of vintage photographs, from Tuesday March 23, 2010. 

This collection of original silver gelatin prints were the chosen finalists in a 1957 photographic competition sponsored by Fernandes and Co.  The aim of the competition was 'to capture the Spirit of Trinidad' and was part of an extensive advertising campaign to promote Vat 19 rum.  The exhibition will also include some of the original artwork created by advertising agency Davies and Chislett for the campaign.  Among the photographers whose work will be exhibited are Noel Norton, Leon Ache and Boy Dalla Costa, but the competition was open to anyone with a camera. 

An exhibition that should not be missed, this collection is of great cultural interest as it records our rich history, provides a glimpse of life in Trinidad in the 1950s and reminds us of 'The Spirit of Trinidad'. 

‘The Spirit of Trinidad’ opens on Tuesday March 23 and will continue until March 30.  In2Art is located at 201 Aldegonda Park, 7 St. Ann’s Road, Port-of-Spain, and open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Contact 624-4369/621-2224 for more details.
