THE POWER OF COLOUR AT IN2ART
In2Art is pleased to be hosting THE POWER OF COLOUR, an exhibition that gives prominence to two emerging artists, KENDERSON NORAY and NADYA SHAH, both UWI Graduates. There is both a formal and conceptual strength of the original art presented and this will be an opportunity to take part in exploring and interpreting the messages so wonderfully expressed through the power of colour as well acquire works early in the artists' careers while still attainable and as well, become a part of the artists' stories.
25-year old KENDERSON NORAY loved to draw at an early age. Growing up in the subdued hills of Paramin, Kenderson was heavily influenced by the laid back nature of the people and the vibrant colours of his environment. At eighteen he entered a few village competitions, in which he won all, and later pursued his love for art at the University of the West Indies. Kenderson understands the need for a mentor and artist Sundiata has accepted this important responsibility in a young artist who has potential and committed to his chosen career.
NADYA SHAH, a graduate from the University of the West Indies in the field of Visual Art with a minor in Cultural Studies, is a multi- media artist whose work explores ideas and notions associated with the human condition. Her work is largely based on investigations and loose representations of feelings and emotions associated with being and existence. Everyday occurrences, events, objects, experiences and interpersonal relationships fuel her creative passion and generate a wide platform of inspiration and stimulation. To date she is mostly known for her often large scale acrylic paintings but she has also ventured into the field of film having produced and shown a short film at the 2008 Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival. She has exhibited in several group shows with other fellow emerging artists within the last two years, including the UWI Final Year Show in 2008 at the National Museum and collaborative efforts at Alice Yard, More Vino and the In2Art Gallery in 2008 and 2009. She is currently preparing to start a Post Graduate Diploma in Arts and Cultural Enterprise Management at the UWI St Augustine campus as groundwork to pursue her Master's Degree in 2011.
THE POWER OF COLOUR opens at In2Art, 201 Aldegonda Park, 7 St. Ann's Road, St. Ann's, on Friday April 9 and closes on Thursday April 15, 2010. Please call the Gallery at 624-4369 for any further information.
